With the help of a special interface the direct connection of
SmartMedia cards to the computer modules of the BASIC-Tiger™ family is
possible. The FLASH cards are addressed directly, whereby the
conversion from the 5V logic into the 3V technique is contained in the
adapter. SmartMedia cards are available with capacities from 8 to 256
MByte and generally allow a minimum of 100,000 erase cycles. Through
recognition and management of defective FLASH blocks a high data
security over a longer time span is assured. The cards can be written
and read in FAT12 or FAT16 mode, so that an easy data exchange with
PCs, cameras, MP3 players and other systems is possible.
In addition, it can be used as plain buffer with random access. This
can be used for economic memory extension or for special applications
like:
„Repair“ of damaged SmartMedia cards, which can happen on exchange between cameras and PCs
Apply of copy protection
Save data invisible
Protect data from unauthorized access
Data encryption
The
interface recognizes if a media is inserted and that it is positioned
the right way. An LED on the front can be controlled and indicate the
user conditions like „Ready“, „Busy“ and „Error“. The SmartMedia
Interface can also be integrated into board designs as in devices and
frontpanel instruments. For this the interface has mounting holes and
soldering surfaces to integrate it into mechanical constructions by
soldering. The robust interface to the BASIC-Tiger™ is designed, so
that in normal environments flawless operation with cable length of 1 m
and above is assured.
