The Discovery Board is a design example for the integration of
different types of I/O channels on one compact board using the
TINY-Tiger™. Depending on the application a TINY-Tiger™ with 544 kByte
up to 2.5 MByte FLASH + SRAM is used. The Discovery Board has 5
mounting holes and is suited for wall and chassis assembly. In
laboratory environment it can be equipped with rubber feet. Most
remarkable feature is the clearly visible compact speaker, which also
indicates a field of apllication: Speech and sound output. Fitting the
integrated microphone. Speech and sounds be recorded as well as passed
on through RS232 / RS485 for e.g. digital intercoms.
Especially applications with sound / speech output resp. tasks with
focus on good LCD graphics profit from the 2 MByte FLASH in the
TCN-4/16 Tiger. Depending on sample rate, resolution and desired sound
quality, ca. 100 ... 300 seconds of sound or speech can be recorded.
Enough for many announcement systems or speaking reporting units. For
projects with larger sound files the usage of SmartMedia FLASH cards
suggests itself, which are available in sizes from 16 ... 128 MByte at
the moment. Connection to the BASIC-Tiger™ is done with the SmartMedia
Adapter.
In graphical applications the memory requirement is usually not that
high, so the internal FLASH mostly is sufficient. With under 4 KByte
for a full picture 240 x 128 pixels, ca. 250 pictures fit into one
MByte of memory. Added to that is the fast vector graphic of the
BASIC-Tiger™ system. It allows the generation of pictures from vector
data in realtime operation, so that only a bit of memory is used.
Additionally
the board possesses the mentioned common I/O features, clock and SRAM
with battery backup and light- and temperature sensors. With this the
board is directly usable as small control- and measuring system, e.g.
in house control and monitoring.
